Honeywell says Big Biz Jet Market $12 Billion a Year Through 2016

December 15th, 2006

Speednews reports in the Oct 20, 2006 issue of STW that Honeywell issued their annual annual forecast for corporate aviation at NBAA. The report forecasts delivery of approximately 12,000 new business aircraft worth $195b in 2006-2016.

“Business Liners: The current Business Aviation Outlook does not explicitly include aircraft in the Business Liner class (typically well over 100,000 pounds takeoff weight and based on transport airframes). However, purchase expectations are recorded for these models in the survey. Deliveries of aircraft in this class are projected to total around 200 through 2016 and should average more than 20 aircraft per year in the latter part of the forecast period. Aircraft represented in this segment include the Boeing BBJ series, the Airbus Elite A318 and Airbus Corporate Jetliner as well as the Lineage 1000 from Embraer. This segment comprises an additional $11 to $12 billion of business aircraft sales. “

What’s it like to fly in a Boeing Business Jet? Now you can see for yourself

December 6th, 2006

Haven’t had a chance to fly in a BBJ?  Me either.  Love to, but hey they just can’t land on the grass airstrip on the island.

Maybe this video will help.  I wonder who did the interior of the jet?

100th “green” BBJ shipped

December 1st, 2006

Boeing has announced that they’ve shipped their 100th "green" Boeing Business Jet (BBJ).

SEATTLE, Nov. 29, 2006 — Boeing [NYSE: BA] Business Jets today delivered its 100th "green" — unfurnished — airplane. Representatives of the government of India accepted the milestone airplane at the Boeing Delivery Center in Seattle. "One hundred business jets delivered in 10 years is an amazing testament to the BBJ’s wide market appeal and the great work of the Boeing team members who design, sell, build and support these airplanes," said Steven Hill, president of Boeing Business Jets.

In addition to the 737-based BBJ, BBJ 2 and BBJ 3, Boeing Business Jets also offers VIP versions of the 747-8, 767, 777 and 787. Boeing Business Jets’ order book stands at 124 jets including 99 BBJs, 14 BBJ 2s , two BBJ 3s and nine widebody VIP airplanes.

What’s a "green" jet?  Well, as you can see it’s green.  That isn’t a factory colour scheme choice, that’s the way you get one of these babies before you have it painted and the interior designed to your specs.

I don’t know what would be more fun, seeing your green jet ready to start being prepared for you, or working with someone like our sponsor Greenpoint Technologies to get it done.  Maybe next time I’m in Seattle I’ll see if I can get a feel for what it’s like to design a jet’s interior.

That’s a far more realistic wish that ever being able to own one of these jets.
